I wish they had tried it on the last day of the test with the 2020 cars instead of during a race weekend. We’ve seen that somewhat good ideas like knockout qualifying can be torpedoed by the teams if they feel like itThats true, I dont want to get ahead of myself or start thinking they’re great or horrible for the sport, and I definitely dont want them to just go ahead and schedule one for each weekend. I would just like to see 1 or 2, and if they suck, get rid of them. I just think it’s worth at least trying once.

Isn’t there talk of giving points to the top 3 finishers or something? Pizza working off this six pack shirt to be some reward otherwise no team will want to bother, that said if it is only the top 3 who get points then the vast majority of teams have all the extra cost of more races but not much reward.If F1 was more competitive in general where most cars could in theory qualify at the front, I’d be all in favour of a sprint race, but because it’s only a few cars who can realistically fight for the front it just reinforces the current status quo, unle you do some sort of reverse grid which teams have already ruled out.What’s pure about limited amount of engines/parts, mandatory tyre changes, two separate “overtake” buttons, pit-walls basically telling the drivers what buttons they need to press and switches need to turn on/off depending on what telemetry suggests…?And the worst offender of it all: inconsistent rules about RACING… A great battle can easily be punsihed with a penalty, IF the stewards feel like that (or if the Championship’s balance requires a nudge in the right direction).Not to mention the horribly limiting technical rules, both in terms of allowed R&D (do they still have “tokens”???) and of general freedom in projecting a car.If it were up to me, all I’d give designers would be a min/max length, width, heigth and weight, only 1 appendix/element allowed on front and rear wings and that’d be it. Basically as long as the F1 car can fit a standard “box”, anything goes.THAT’d be “pure sport”, where the most creative can still come up with a revolutionary idea that can level the field.
The current abomination only favours those with the largest budget and racing isn’t even that exciting anyway.
