The ongoing feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake took a surprising turn when Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé publicly aligned himself with DeMar DeRozan. During the Kings’ 122–107 home victory over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night, the 67-year-old billionaire sported a “Not Like Us” T-shirt—named after Lamar’s Billboard-topping diss track aimed at Drake.
By wearing the shirt, Ranadivé signaled support for Kings star DeRozan, a Compton native and former Raptors standout who has recently distanced himself from Drake. Drafted by Toronto in 2009, DeRozan played nine seasons with the franchise and was once close friends with the Canadian rapper. However, the relationship cooled after DeRozan appeared in Lamar’s “Not Like Us” music video and joined the rapper onstage during a summer concert at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.
The tensions escalated during a recent Raptors-Kings matchup, when Drake—sitting courtside—remarked on TSN that he would personally take down a DeRozan banner if Toronto retired the star’s jersey. Unfazed, DeRozan responded, “He’s going to have a long way to climb to take it down.”
Former Raptors guard Lou Williams also criticized Drake’s comment, calling it “selfish” and highlighting DeRozan’s contributions to the organization. Williams, who was once close to Drake and even name-checked in the rapper’s hit track 6 Man, explained on the Run It Back podcast that the situation “goes way bigger than personal relationships” and is ultimately about respecting the franchise.
This isn’t Ranadivé’s first interaction with Drake. In 2019, the rapper provided his private jet for the Kings’ preseason trip to India, earning the nickname “Air Drake” among fans. But this time, Ranadivé has firmly inserted himself into one of hip-hop’s most talked-about rivalries, making it clear where he stands—with DeRozan.
