The Los Angeles Lakers are turning back the clock in style. For the 2025–26 NBA season, the franchise has officially announced the return of their California Dream City Edition jerseys, a design first introduced in 2023–24. The announcement was accompanied by a sleek video on social media, teasing fans about the uniform’s comeback.

“The Los Angeles Lakers are bringing back their 2023–24 ‘California Dream’ City Edition uniform for the 2025–26 season,” the team said in a statement. “The uniform, presented by Bibigo, celebrates the evolution of the Lakers’ identity.”

These uniforms return after last season’s LakeShow kits drew heavy criticism, especially following a rough 1–9 start. In contrast, the California Dream design is steeped in Lakers history and symbolism. Its all-black base, accented with purple and gold, nods to the team’s journey from Minneapolis to Los Angeles. A triangle-style “Lakers” wordmark on the chest pays homage to West Coast basketball aesthetics from the 1960s, while the number font reflects the era of Kobe Bryant’s dominance from 1999 to 2017.

Details run deep: the shorts feature “LAL” on the buckle — a double nod to Los Angeles Lakers and the phrase Leave A Legacy — while the LA ‘speed’ logo reappears on the side panel, cementing the uniform’s distinctive identity.

Nike and the Lakers opted to revive the California Dream jerseys due to their historic appeal and better reception compared to last year’s City Edition. Reactions from fans have been mixed: some question the reuse of past designs, while others celebrate the return of a jersey deeply tied to the franchise’s heritage.

The California Dream jersey will once again rotate alongside the gold Icon, purple Statement, and white Association editions. Its return also coincides with a new era led by superstar Luka Doncic, who is expected to don the design as he leads the Lakers in pursuit of championships and long-term dominance.

For fans who snagged LeBron James, Austin Reaves, or Rui Hachimura versions of the 2023–24 California Dream jersey, this is welcome news: those jerseys are back in style and relevance, no upgrade required. The Lakers have successfully blended history, design, and future ambition, giving fans a jersey to proudly wear as the team writes its next chapter.
