On Saturday night, Angel City FC turned the pitch into a platform for unity and belonging. Players and staff stepped onto the field wearing striking black T-shirts emblazoned with the words “Immigrant City Football Club” across the front — a bold show of support for immigrants on a day marked by citywide protests against ICE raids in Los Angeles.
The back of the shirts carried an equally powerful message in both English and Spanish: “Los Angeles is for everyone” and “Los Ángeles es para todos.” During the national anthem, Angel City players locked arms, a silent but unmistakable statement of solidarity.
Angel City’s stand marked a historic first — becoming the only one of L.A.’s 11 major professional sports franchises to issue a public statement in support of those affected by recent immigration raids across Los Angeles County and beyond. To further spread the message, the club handed out “Immigrant City Football Club” shirts to the first 10,000 fans at BMO Stadium for their match against the North Carolina Courage.
The moment was punctuated by founding investor and Grammy-nominated artist Becky G, who addressed the crowd as the players walked out for introductions:
“At Angel City, we believe in the power of belonging. We know that Los Angeles is stronger because of its diversity and the people and families who shape it, love it, and call it home. The fabric of this city is made of immigrants. Football does not exist without immigrants. This club does not exist without immigrants. This is our home. This is L.A. This is Immigrant City.”
From the roar of the crowd to the sea of black shirts in the stands, the night was more than a match — it was a declaration. In a city built by immigrants, Angel City FC made one thing clear: everyone belongs.
