Sarah Jane was absolutely the highlight of the episode, I’m not even familiar with her from the original series, but Elisabeth Sladen sells everything perfectly – particularly her expression when she sees the TARDIS again for the first time in years. Her chemistry with David Tennant is great. I liked how her reintroduction brought up the elephant in the room between the Doctor and Rose, and I can’t help but feel like this is leading up to Rose getting killed off, particularly after Queen Victoria’s speech when she banishes them in the previous episode.

The design of the robot with the 17th century costume is really cool, and the constant ticking noise is very creepy. The Doctor returns just a few minutes later but it’s been years for Reinette and she does what anyone would do when their imaginary friend reappears and snogs his face off.
