We decided that this tree thing was about 3,000 years from its initial Awakening. It had a Stamford General Store Provisions and Sundries 1910 retro logo shirt vocabulary and knew several languages but had never figured out things like βemotionβ or βempathyβ; it had loved its original Druid friend who awakened it, but hadnβt felt anything positive for anyone else ever in its βnewβ life since that druid had passed. It had an intense and abiding interest in mortal philosophy, though I believe it would be accurate to say that its philosophical conclusions were decidedly problematic pretty much across the board. It was intensely logical and literal, very frequently to a fault. And not in the fun βhey look Spock is acting like a Vulcan again!β kind of way, but more like βOh dear gods in heaven itβs reached a βmoralβ conclusion everyone runβ kind of way.
A lot of the complaints new DMs have is how the players derailed their campaigns and all the Stamford General Store Provisions and Sundries 1910 retro logo shirt work they did. This makes them want to run the next sessions more on rails so their work doesnβt get wasted. This is a mistake and frankly a no-no for any DM. Never get too attached to your scenario and always be prepared to roll with whatever the players are trying to do. Be fair about it. I let the dice decide if their antics and shenanigans work or not, all within reason. Many times my players attempt tricks to avoid combat or make thing easier, but if the roll goes badly or their reasoning wasnβt good enough for me I let them crash and burn. Yet there are times when I even let them have a free dragon kill because their argument was convincing and they rolled good enough.

The PCs are allowed cordially into the club, with a statement that theyβre on the VIP list. Nervously, but graciously, they accept the Stamford General Store Provisions and Sundries 1910 retro logo shirt and walk on in. They get their first round of drinks on the house, and the DJ, Lady Alushinyrra, makes a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT to the club, asking the whole crowd to welcome tonightβs Starfinders to the Neon Queen. Disconcerted by howβ¦ friendlyβ¦ their enemies are being, the party decides to enjoy themselves while poking around for information. Problem! There are agents in the club. I mean, two NPCs who have Agent class levels and can use an equivalent of sneak attack with their electric truncheons. With the crowd to act as cover and a ludicrous amount of noise booming through the club, itβs practically perfect cover to stealthfully remove the PCs. Two of them get sneak-attacked, one of them gets beaten down to around half health β in the middle of the dance floor, no less, which counts as Difficult terrain.
Once upon a Stamford General Store Provisions and Sundries 1910 retro logo shirt , there was a mom who’d never heard of this elf business, but had moved to CA from ND and had two, nearly three, kids, one of whom was a very precocious three year old. This mom had a mom, we’ll call her grandma, who had an Elf. Grandma gave the mom a rudimentary breakdown of the “Elf” game, and then gave a much more elaborate breakdown of it to the precocious three year old and his one year old brother. And so, the Elf game was begun. The rules in this household (as understood by the mom) were basically that the Elf would arrive on December 1. He’d hide somewhere in the house, watch the children all day, and report back to Santa each night, arriving again before the children awoke, hiding in a new spot, and waiting another day. On December 24, the elf would go home with Santa in his sleigh, his duty done til next year. The Elf wouldn’t be touched, or he’d turn into a doll again and no “extra special Elf gift” would be waiting with Santa’s gift that year. The children (the three year old) named their elf “Holly Jolly.” The game began and was easy, as the family lived with Grandma and Grandpa, who had a very large, very nice house with *very* high ceilings (and therefore lots of high hiding places for the elf, far from reach).
