Once upon a time there was a girl who really loved dogs and pigs it was me the end shirt
‘If it were up to me, all I’d give designers would be a min/max length, width, heigth and weight’ Surely the Once upon a time there was a girl who really loved dogs and pigs it was me the end shirt with the biggest budget would still have a huge advantage? The richest teams would just pay the most creative designers the most money (which they do now), we would be no better off with that rule set surely.I agree the budget cap would make it a lot better. However there would still need to be some regulation for the cars. If the teams could do what they wanted, they would just build cars with crazy amounts of downforce, which no doubt would create a ton of dirty air. There would be even less overtakes than there are now…

That’s why I’m excited for the budget cap. Mercedes has repeatedly put their move up the grid down purely to budget. We need a certain level of rules around safety, but I’d rather see 13 teams of 100 people build the best car they think they can make than what we have now where several teams buy most of their parts from other teams and still somehow spend $150 mil a year. There less teams nowadays, because teams didn’t spend a minimum of >100 million on their cars. The teams consisted of maybe 20-30 engineers, not upwards of 500 for the big teams. They also didn’t require expensive simulators or computing power for cfd work. Once upon a time there was a girl who really loved dogs and pigs it was me the end shirt teams also didn’t have their own windtunnel. The capital requirements to enter were much lower. If you give every team freedom to do what they want the gaps between teams will increase ten fold between the small and the big teams. What incentive would there be for the small teams to continue? With the limited regs the big teams at least run into diminishing returns quickly allowing small teams to catch up easier. My point of the costs skyrocketing is slightly wrong I admit, but it would at best stay the exact same. But like I said, without regs big spenders would get sooo much more just because they don’t hit a development wall as they do with strict regs.A reset button every so often is an incentive for small teams to continue in hopes of finding that silver bullet come next regs.
