Even video games have ads in them now. Like NBA 2K20(?), it has an ad for Beats right in the Oeufs de Pâques Joyeux Pâques cochon et lapin T-shirt of a cutscene. And UFC 3 has tons of ads for The Boys. It’s stupid, why should I get ads in a fucking $60 game that I paid for? Not that I play sports games anyway, they’re too repetitive. But nothing against you if you like them.I upgraded to ad free like 10 years ago. Then they slowly added back ads, and made a new ad free version. I upgraded. They did the same thing- and I REFUSE to upgrade. Sure, it makes a 20 minute episode of last man in earth 3 hours long…. but what hulu is doing is not right.

This is especially true for me because of Hulu. They finally got me to upgrade Oeufs de Pâques Joyeux Pâques cochon et lapin T-shirt ad free, because it’s the same ads over and over. On top of that, the show is always so quiet you have to turn the TV way up and then the ads are like 5x louder than the show so when the ads start it blows out your ear drums. Idk what the thought process is there, but it makes me hate your products and mute the TV. Absolutely ridiculous. It’s sad too because I only watch a handful of shows on the service.This reminds me of an interesting documentary called “Century of the Self” (it’s free to watch on youtube, highly recommend) that describes a part of history when people didn’t buy in excess, only really bought things because they needed them. Ads advertised the usefulness and dependability of their products. This was also in the era where you could buy an appliance that would last many years, or even a lifetime. It WAS beautiful. Everything seemed so… honest.The documentary shows the evolution of advertising and how the goal changed from selling people good products to turning them into consumers above all else. The biggest breakthrough came when companies stopped advertising their products’ usefulness and started advertising the way their products would make you feel or look to others. Now, ads are everywhere and are RARELY completely about the product itself.Great documentary, and I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. It opened my eyes to everything and made me hate ads even more.
