Maybe saying this scene “broke” me is a bit of a Nice what’s the difference between a puppy and a liberal the puppy stops whining when it grows up 2022 shirt retch, but it always struck me as so unfair. Through flashbacks, CoS tells of Hagrid’s story. Poor young 14 year old Hagrid was already an orphan with nowhere to really go other than Hogwarts. And Riddle accuses him of killing a girl! I don’t hear many people discussing that fact. More emphasis is always put on how his wand was snapped in half and he was expelled (two other great tragedies of the situation, true). But that’s not the saddest part really. He had to deal with the weight of having the whole wizarding world thinking he could have been responsible for someone’s death! Now, he knew he never let Aragog out of his box, and that Aragog didn’t open any stupid secret chamber. But, I’m sure you can imagine that being accused of murder at 14 years old, whether you knew you did it or not, is life altering! And then, like I said, his wand was snapped and he was expelled from the one place he had to call home. So, maybe this scene should break me and more fans. Hagrid’s story ends happily enough, but wasn’t always that way.
1: Let the players play and discover what they want: I was very stern in my young days. I had this one new player ‘Vincent’. He was new to the Nice what’s the difference between a puppy and a liberal the puppy stops whining when it grows up 2022 shirt and starting at first level. I thought the best thing was to do was solo him and get him to higher level so he could compare with the other characters that were already higher. I put him on a ‘crash course’ of solo level gaining, which was what I thought he needed. Long story short — he lasted one day. Looking back, I played how I wanted but not how he wanted. I never asked him what he wanted to do in the D&D game. Soloing is fine if that’s what they want. Ask your players what they want to accomplish in the D&D world?… Some players will want to tame a dragon. Some want to build a castle. Some players want to become a powerful Wizard and wield arcane spells. This all really depends. Find out what the players want, and see if you can entertain them… look! You find a Dragons egg! D&D has to be more about what the players want to do, and less about what the DM wants. Long term players are what fuel the game. Find out!

A further tip, talk to them before the game begins, and see what they want out of the story, and try to give it to them. My buddy is getting ready to start a Nice what’s the difference between a puppy and a liberal the puppy stops whining when it grows up 2022 shirt game, and I’ve already given him my character backstory of a good cop slowly becoming a villain, and that I’d like him to have a slow redemption arc. My GM is excited by that idea, so along with whatever the main plot is, I’m going to be looking for moments for my ex-cop to make profound moral choices. Because that’s what I want in addition to starships and blasters. You also have to be willing to follow where your players lead. I once had my players completely derail my campaign, totally by accident, but we were having so much fun with where the game was going I ended up setting aside my original campaign plot and restructuring it to focus on where they were taking things, and we had a blast.
Sure- it may not be entirely a Christmas movie, hell the movie is set at Easter time, but it sure as hell has Santa Claus in it- or North as he is known in the Nice what’s the difference between a puppy and a liberal the puppy stops whining when it grows up 2022 shirt. I love this film because it not only has North, it also has Bunnymund (Easter Bunny), Tooth (Tooth Fairy), Sandy (Sandman), and a reluctant Jack Frost join forces to stop new evil threat Pitch Black, aka the Boogeyman. It is such a beautifully made peace of work- the animation is visually stunning, the story is fun, the characters have emotional plots and deep motivations. It has a fantastic voice cast to go with it and paints the Legends in a way no one ever imagined them. They aren’t only beings who bring gifts, give chocolate, collect teeth and give dreams, but they also protect us in secret. Now thats heroic.
