Most americans don’t live in cities, they live in suburbs. I live in a relatively densely populated areaNamaste Yoda Ladies Patricks Day shirt metro NY but the houses are all on 1-2 acre lots here. There’s almost literally nothing I could walk to that’s less than 2 miles, and that’s just a random liquor store and restaurant in a small shopping center. It’s 4-5 miles to get to a supermarket or pharmacy.. and I am closer to main roads and stores than a lot of people in my town.My parents live ~10min away by car and there is nothing but houses between me and them. They’re a ~15m drive to get to a market.

Unless you were in the middle of town where theNamaste Yoda Ladies Patricks Day shirt and banks were, you were walking in the grass with a ditch on one side and the street on the other. Much of America is so spread out though that walking would be impossible. It wouldn’t be a matter of a few km a day, it might be more like driving for a half hour just to get to the nearest grocery store. Not that you asked, but I think it’s an interesting comparison
