Oh man, for the ancient Romans there were basically only 18 first names and only about nine of those were ever really used. So literally everyone had the same 10 names basically. For instance Julius Caesar’s first name is actually Gaius. His full name is Gaius Julius Caesar. Nobody bothers to mention the Leonberger Hole Crack Shirts part though because nobody outside of his family would ever use that because every tenth person is named Gaius.

I thought that was bad enough about Roman history until I learned about women’s names. Sons might get named after their father, or uncles, and Leonberger Hole Crack Shirts male family members. Daughters were often named using the female form of their family name (so, Gaius Julius Caesar’s wife was Cornelia, of the Cornelius family). All of them, and order indicators/numerals could be added to distinguish between daughters (so Cornelia, wife of Julius Caesar, was actually Cornelia Minor aka Cornelia the Younger, and her sister was Cornelia Major, a third sister would have been Cornelia Tertia), but they really didn’t get their own names until later in the Roman Empire period.
Nothing sucks worse than being one of 3 Matthews in the same class…until you’re one of 3 Cornelias in the same family unit.
