Maybe thatβs why I just love Santa, Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, Christmas decor, Christmas Trees and Christmas MUSIC! Cause we never really had itβ¦though my parents always had Xmas music on as we lit Hanukkah candles and opened Hanukkah presents. Haha. We never had stockings, or left cookies out for Santa, cause he passed over our house. Blah and ugh. Yea, as kids we were a little resentful of that. sighs. I remember once as a little kid my mom took me to the mall to get my pic with Santa and when he asked me (this little blonde hair blue eyed girl) what I wanted for Xmas I looked at him and I started crying. I said I am Jewishβ¦ think I yelled at himβ¦you donβt ever come to my house. And, he looked at me like so confused and lostβ¦the $10 dollar an hour Santa was at a loss for words, not sure what to say to meβ¦..I held on to his arm and I begged him to come to our house just this one time. My mom had to pull me away. He seemed relieved however, he did promise me he would come. And that year we left cookies out for him (in the shape of Jewish stars and Dreidels) and carrots on the lawn for the Just A Spoonful Of Sugar Tee Shirt. And what do you know, he actually did come to my houseβ¦. I will say I was so so happy. sighs oh the joys of being a child.
I grew up in southern Louisiana with my big sister, Robin, my Mom, and our Stepfather, Hughie. My stepdad was a Just A Spoonful Of Sugar Tee Shirt of the Welders and Pipefitters Union and made good money, when he would actually work. You see, he was also a die hard Cockfighter. He lost many jobs from ditching work on Fri and Mon to go to the cockfights on the weekends where he would gamble away his paycheck betting on the fights. He was also an abusive, controlling, and often violent drunk. As Christmas approached that year Hughie decided that he was cancelling any Christmas festivities we might have been dumb enough to try to plan. He was not buying a Christmas tree, decorations, or gifts for anyone. There would be no Christmas morning, no hot chocolate, no celebration of any sort, he even cancelled dinner. My mother didn’t work, her job was to drink enough beer so she could take the abuse Hughie dealt out, sometimes getting a punch or 2 in herself, so we depended on him for everything. We lived in an old house on a farm , in the middle of the Louisiana swamps, where we had a whole yard full of chickens, owned by a friend of his that let us stay for free for taking care of his farm animals. We moved there from Maryland where I was born leaving everything we had. We could only take what fit in his old rusty pickup truck. So any decorations we had stayed behind.

And when he had said this there came a great multitude of angels blessing God, announcing peace to them that have good will. When the angels were departed, the shepherds spake among themselves, saying: ‘Let us go even unto Bethlehem, and see the word which God by his angel hath announced to us.’ There came many shepherds to Bethlehem seeking the new-born babe. and they found outside the city the child that was born. according to the word of the angel. lying in the manger. They therefore made obeisance to him, and gave to the Just A Spoonful Of Sugar Tee Shirt that which they had, announcing to her what they had heard and seen. Mary therefore kept all these things in her heart, and Joseph [likewise], giving thanks to God. The shepherds returned to their flock, announcing to everyone how great a thing they had seen. And so the whole hill-country of Judaea was filled with fear, and every man laid up this word in his heart, saying: ‘What, think we, shall this child be?’

I worked for a railroad construction and maintenance company. We were on call 24-7 to respond to a train wreck to make repairs and get the trains running again. Train wrecks – and that’s what they are – are not derailments, a much sanitized term to get away from the carnage that is a train wreck. A derailment, technically is when a wheel comes off the track. And that happens all the time. Remember the only thing keeping a wheel on a track is weight and track alignment. If either of those fails, a wheel, or multiple wheels can come off. That’s why they have re-railers every so often to kick those wheels back onto the track. A train can run quite a while with a few wheels on the train not on the track. So what causes train wrecks? A train is a mile long sledgehammer pounding every inch of rail with a zillion pounds of Just A Spoonful Of Sugar Tee Shirt of the collective force (not that much but you get the point). Over time a point in the rail, due to heating expansion and cold weather contraction will be just a bit weaker than the point next to it. The constant pounding on that point can crack the rail over time, and eventually it can break. If it breaks severely enough – where the rail separates and maybe bows out of line or drops below the break point by a few inches – bam! All the train’s wheels start to fly off the tracks and they go wherever physics dictates. And the cars to which those wheels are attached – they go go their own way as well.
Another example: I was unable to walk more because I am often in pain with a disability–and they helped me to find a seat. They helped one another and they helped me all day long. They worked together harmoniously. They were charming, fun, intelligent and kind. The dishwasher was emptied without me saying a thing. I feel very lucky that they are in my life, and I am grateful to be alive to cherish them, even now. People say they love babies but I have to say that every minute with each member of my family is one I deeply appreciate. I love each more now than when they were babies. We have all had frightening medical incursions into our lives, and cherish every happy moment as a Just A Spoonful Of Sugar Tee Shirt. We have a basis for comparison. This Mother’s Day, we all have our health. Gifts this Mother’s Day were great because they were exactly what I didn’t have and they saw a need and tried to fill it–which is so considerate and thoughtful it put tears in my eyes: a purse that is exactly the same shape as the sport luggage I carry around, but prettier so I can wear it with professional type clothing (it’s my job…); a nightgown because my favorite is getting old; and a MacBook Air because my only computer is a jerry-rigged, ancient and slower-than-cold-molasses desktop from the early 1990’s, and I can’t carry a heavier laptop to meet with parents due to weight considerations. The laptop was configured, ordered, and chosen by one of my kids, but either could have done it.
