I’m curious if this particular strip was before or after Charles Marston died. Marston himself, and his partners, were interesting (his wife was an academic at Harvard with him, he was in a poly triad, they raised kids together, they experimented in BDSM, etc). Wonder Woman was actually created as a representation of his wife and their girlfriend.Buuuuut, it was the 30s, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he still had many typical role-based views of womenSooooo this is actually from the very second issue of Wonder Woman (in 1942 if I’m not mistaken) and it does sound kinda bad standing on its own but in context it’s…not as bad I guess (I mean it really depends on how you look at it). Basically Marston viewed women as superior to men because he believed that women are more honest than we are. So Wonder Woman’s vanity, which was a I_m retired my job is to collect chickens shirt common theme in her early days, wasn’t a flaw so much as her being able to admit she’s vain about some things (whereas a man wouldn’t) and still overcoming her enemies anyway.

Hell one of her biggest weaknesses at the time was if her bracelets were “chained” to a man (yes this does represent his interest in I_m retired my job is to collect chickens shirt , she would lose her super strength because this represented women’s subjugation to men. But Marston always had her break the chains in the long because he absolutely hated the idea of men subjugating humans. So it’s not really something that would be ok today, because obviously feminism has evolved over time, but back then it definitely wasn’t the standard depiction of female characters. (Sorry if you already knew most of this, I’m not trying to mansplain I just figured I would make this comment for anyone who didn’t know much about her origins)
