I was especially impressed at how personally appropriate the I Mett Brotchen shirt. The food was enough for our whole family for a week, and even included a turkey AND a ham. The wrapped presents were labeled for us by name. Each of us children received much needed clothing. I received a brand new, with the tags, warm coat that fit me perfectly. Whoever was responsible really did their homework. There were new art supplies and crafting kits for me. There were skates and sporty equipment for my sister. My brother got toys he would have picked out.

Best I Mett Brotchen shirt
We never mentioned Santa at our house, only that the kids have I Mett Brotchen shirt if they want Christmas presents, and “what did you get for Christmas?” and we watched Christmas stories. When my 4 year old daughter asked “is Santa and reindeers real or just cartoon?” I answered “real reindeer can’t fly, so Rudolph and the others are just make believe. Santa Claus was a man who lived a long time ago who was so generous and loved kids and poor people so much that when he died the parents and villages he helped decided to keep his name alive by taking his place in their own homes and villages and giving him the credit. And then the kids that those people gave gifts to grew up and took part in being Santa too. And on and on. So every parent who gives gifts from Santa, every church and business and person that gives Christmas presents to the less fortunate in the name of Santa, every big kid who gives to someone else without claiming the credit, they are ALL Santa, and that means Santa is very real.” When my son, who was 2 at the time, asked the same question at age 3 1/2, my daughter piped up with “Mommy IS Santa Claus now cause the real Santa died before you was born, Bubby” and then popped the Veggietales movie about Saint Nick (Saint Nicholas, A Story of Joyful Giving) in the DVD player so she could give him a commentary about how the story of chimneys and reindeer and flying sleds and everything started. I didn’t have to answer much of anything. They have both been told that it’s fun to pretend, so the kids who believe it’s for real won’t get their feelings hurt and the other grown ups can have fun pretending with them.
