1: Let the players play and discover what they want: I was very stern in my young days. I had this one new player βVincentβ. He was new to the I can fit an entire Basketball in my Shirt and starting at first level. I thought the best thing was to do was solo him and get him to higher level so he could compare with the other characters that were already higher. I put him on a βcrash courseβ of solo level gaining, which was what I thought he needed. Long story short β he lasted one day. Looking back, I played how I wanted but not how he wanted. I never asked him what he wanted to do in the D&D game. Soloing is fine if thatβs what they want. Ask your players what they want to accomplish in the D&D world?β¦ Some players will want to tame a dragon. Some want to build a castle. Some players want to become a powerful Wizard and wield arcane spells. This all really depends. Find out what the players want, and see if you can entertain themβ¦ look! You find a Dragons egg! D&D has to be more about what the players want to do, and less about what the DM wants. Long term players are what fuel the game. Find out!

The PCs are allowed cordially into the club, with a statement that theyβre on the VIP list. Nervously, but graciously, they accept the I can fit an entire Basketball in my Shirt and walk on in. They get their first round of drinks on the house, and the DJ, Lady Alushinyrra, makes a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT to the club, asking the whole crowd to welcome tonightβs Starfinders to the Neon Queen. Disconcerted by howβ¦ friendlyβ¦ their enemies are being, the party decides to enjoy themselves while poking around for information. Problem! There are agents in the club. I mean, two NPCs who have Agent class levels and can use an equivalent of sneak attack with their electric truncheons. With the crowd to act as cover and a ludicrous amount of noise booming through the club, itβs practically perfect cover to stealthfully remove the PCs. Two of them get sneak-attacked, one of them gets beaten down to around half health β in the middle of the dance floor, no less, which counts as Difficult terrain.
Who says he didnβt know? He just didnβt stop it. He doesnβt stop your bully either. Doesnβt mean he doesnβt know about it. Santa is in the I can fit an entire Basketball in my Shirt making/delivery business not the social justice business. He knows, he just does not have the power/authority to do anything about it. Nor does he have the time to go and stop bullying. He only puts bullies on the naughty list. He has toys to prep, routes to plan, lists to check, letters to read, visits to make, parties to attend, lists to check again, and deliveries to make on Christmas eve. There are many who think Santa only works 1 night a year, and they are wrong. Christmas prep starts at the NP on the 2d of Jan. The entire operation gets 7 days off each year to celebrate a job well done. The entire month of Jan is debrief based. What went right, what went wrong and how do we improve. Planning and policy changes happen in Feb. Toy planning is done in March. April is a very busy time. Baby Reindeer are born, toy production goes into full swing, and the first deliveries of raw materials begin to arrive(lumber, nails, paint, wires, circut boards etc). May is herding season for the reindeer. It is also time for toy prototypes. Every elf that has an idea for a new toy has an opportunity to demonstrate it for Santaβs approval.
