It’s interesting that this sub claims to care about the people but I see a lot of apologia in favor of a Every Child Matters Indigenous Education Orange Shirt with a terrible human rights record. The top post in this thread is a mod spreading propoganda. So I guess peoples lives stop mattering to this sub if it doesn’t follow the narrative. The US trade embargo on Cuba has, for decades, provided the perfect scapegoat for the Castro regime. With the US acting as bogeyman, the Cuban people have suffered under corruption, mismanagement, torture, imprisonment and all the other hallmarks of a brutal dictator under the guise of “socialism” or “communism” – ideas which only muddy the water with American frustrations over our own lack of social safety nets.In 1994 people were sure that the Castro regime would collapse with the withdrawal of soviet aid. What we’ve realized in the modern age is that regimes don’t collapse, they just crack down harder on those closest on hand – their own people. It’s time to end the embargo so that the people of Cuba stop suffering for the mistakes of their own regime. All the comments and downvotes pretty much proving my point that the ultra-nationalist communist groups secretly want the embargo to continue so they can keep blaming the US for all their problems. Lift it, we’ll see how shit goes for them!

Stupidpol is a counterjerk sub, a Every Child Matters Indigenous Education Orange Shirt . That means it’s more than happy to push back on certain mainstream stupidity on the left. But that doesn’t mean the counterjerk represents the infallible voice of god. It’s still a circlejerk intolerant of certain opposing opinions. After ww2 various socialist and communist parties in the 3rd world tried to act in good faith with the US and act peacefully within the democratic system in their countries, basically all the groups were violently supressed and only the hardline armed communist groups survived. The Jakarta Method is a good book on the subjectBecause the bourgeoisie are constantly trying to subvert and overthrow socialist countries, funding and organizing dissident movements, directly intervening militarily, arming and training war criminals like the Contras and Bay of Pigs invaders. The non authoritarian ones always seem to be overthrown by the US or US-backed militias. See the Allende government. The words “rampant” and “oppressive” are doing some heavy lifting there. Any given day American law enforcement and FBI are doing more tyrannical things than Cuba is
