Few family holiday stories begin: βNot all marriages go smoothly all theChihuahua With Guitar Ornament Chihuahua Owner Xmas Tree Decoration Gifts For Music Lover .β But this was the case, many years ago, for a certain 40-year-old father in Northern California. He had three children, all younger than 5. The family home was in the middle of a seemingly endless remodeling project. (Picture a roofless second floor, patchwork of flapping tarps, constant drumming rain.) It was all too much for his sleep-deprived 37-year-old wife; weeping, in the minivan, in the rain, she called him one morning and said she was filing for divorce. As fate would have it, the call came in mid-November. Thatβs a classic divorce time clock for you. (I know: I am an ex.) Adult hearts break into pieces, then the major holidays roll in, one after the other, in a slow-moving emotional tsunami. This dad, however, had the wonderful luck to have a younger sister β me. At this time, I had a 1-year-old daughter and was hugely pregnant with another. (There are a lot of small children in this story.) I was bursting with strawberry-banana Danimals and βYou go, girl!β hormones. My traveling musician husband had blessed uprooting myself temporarily from our comfortable-if-comparatively-squalid Van Nuys neighborhood (El Pollo Locos, discount tire stores, pawn shops). In a jingly Christmas sweater, I threw suitcases in the car and barreled north to pull off the Yuletide miracle of cheering up a very sad brother.

I define real gamers as people who passionately play and enjoy all games spread across it’s many genres from Sports and First Person Shooters (fps) to Simulators (sims) and Role Playing Games (RPGs) now this does not necessarily mean you need to own all consoles, but means you play more than the mainstream releases like Call of Duty, Battlefield and Fifa. Those that play just those games and/or insult others for playing something different and thencall themselves gamers is pretty infuriating to me. To further elaborate on this pointβ¦..

This time her kidneys were shutting down. Three days later (Dec 23rd- Traditionally Blue Christmas at my church – the Unitarian Church) theChihuahua With Guitar Ornament Chihuahua Owner Xmas Tree Decoration Gifts For Music Lover told us that she only had days left. She could be gone at Christmas. I had a Jewish friend who was formerly Christian who I remembered telling me about how she had, before recently starting the conversion process, hated Christmas since her teens when her parents had a nasty final fight β¦ β¦ on Christmas Day when she was abruptly made to decide which parent she was going to live with. All of this, again thankfully, came to mind as I though about how her love of photography and lack of Christmas plans meant that something I should have done a long time before – videotaping Mom sharing memories β¦ and just as importantly having a moving, talking memory of Mom – could possibly be squeezed in β¦ β¦ as she didn’t look as bad as the doctor said she was. So calling and asking my friend if her camera did in fact shoot video and if she could be there as soon as possible that very day I got a video of some length that she graciously made at my request enough copies for my self, my three siblings and my nephew and four nieces. And while this Christmas was even worse than the previous with the specter of losing her, it actually was a great β¦ β¦ Christmas too because we got a Christmas miracle. She started to get better. She ended up in a recuperating hospital for about a month and a half but she got well enough that we got another six months total after Christmas to spend with her. So I guess, amidst the worst, in both cases there were gifts bestowed on us. Christmas is a time of celebration, joy, and warmth in the cold (for some people) winter (north of the equator) season. Itβs a gathering of individuals, both Christian and not. But thereβs a grim side of Christmas: so many people arenβt able to participate in the festivities. Itβs not that they choose not to indulge; itβs that they financially canβt. A few days ago, I talked to someone who said his meal at a soup kitchen would be the best thing he received this Christmas season. Think about that. A human beingβs most treasured gift is that he is able to eat. Thereβs more to life than physical security, folks. If not, why do we spoil ourselves with Christmas gifts?
