What you’re describing is precisely why I support more open immigration policies in my country (USA). I’m in favor of making Be the voice for the voiceless shirt easier for folks like yourself to move to the USA so as to help you be in a (slightly) safer place and help our country have a better view of the world.I really wish I had something to tell you about how to make things better, and all I have is: you are not alone. Even in the USA we have people like you describe. You are smarter than many people around you, and what are you going to do with that intelligence?Perhaps covert activism is a possibility for you. Leaving printed pages with questions to get people to thinking, like, “why are we following the religious teachings that do not work?” “Why does god need people to do his work for him?” “Why does a faith about a god of love result in so much hate for foreigners?”There’s a some sort of progress now, at least in Ghana, where I am. Not nearly enough but at least I see some change. For example out of a class 70 or so I graduated with I can count over eight ‘open’ atheist and roughly about ten to fifteen who are not so open about it or in transitioning.A few years ago you couldn’t even have a discussion on LGBTQ but that has changed now. With sustained efforts I think the legality status might change in a few years to come.On the Nigerian side, I’ve been seeing a lot more Nigerian atheist on twitter these days. Many of them are quite vocal and I’m hoping a lot more add their voice. There’s still a lot of fear around coming out because of the power some of these religious bodies and individuals hold and the control they have on the general populace and public and private affairs. The way I see it the more people that come out, the more people that’ll be encouraged to do so too.Clearly I don’t know what it’s like for you, but I hope you’re able to find some way to get to a better place in life.

If I could travel to other countries by just going into the men’s room and praying, and skipping the Be the voice for the voiceless shirt stuffed into an airplane for 15 hours with a couple hundred strangers, and being fed crappy food”, I would definitely do it too! 😂At end there is a segment about religious super scammers who are selling gasoline water as miracle cure fore AIDS, Cancer and other diseases. But I sympathize – Nigeria sounds like it’s roughly where America was 75 years ago, as far as having religion being everywhere. Over time, as education levels increase and poverty (eventually) decreases as median incomes rise, Nigeria is likely to become less religious. That might be quite awhile, though, since Nigeria is far behind the “demographic curve” where fertility levels fall as incomes rise, which has generally been a precursor to increased secularization. Maybe in 25 more years..
