When all else fails turn up the music and dance with your turtle shirt
In 06 they changed the championship to a 10 race shoot out between the top 10 in points. When all else fails turn up the music and dance with your turtle shirt were placed in order of finishing the regular season and had points reset. It was ok. I didn’t hate that too much. It was still a test of the best over a season basically. But they kept changing the rules on who and how they could be eligible. Almost every year. Then they went to elimination style playoffs of “win and you’re in” I don’t like that. To me that’s for stick and ball sports. NASCAR races are usually 4-500 miles with one 600 mile race a year. Yeah it’s long but it was part of nascars charm to me.They instituted “Stage racing” mainly to appease to commercial sponsors. So now races are divided into 3 segments and they award stage points for wining a stage ( not the whole race) and the top ten. They do that twice in the race then award points to all 40 cars at the end.

Best When all else fails turn up the music and dance with your turtle shirt
It gets convoluted and confusing people finishing lower getting more points etc…When all else fails turn up the music and dance with your turtle shirt stage points are added to your playoff points IF you make the playoffs. So I think you can be seeded higher than someone who finished races higher than you all season but by virtuous stage points they’re ahead and they Help you stay in each round somehow. It’s overly complicated IMO.And I’m not a fan of the throttled engines snd high downforce package that makes for close racing that’s hard to pass but that is personal taste so I can’t really knock it but I’m not a fan.So all these kinds of changes happening almost yearly since I started watching is what did it for me.Again, I loved the sport and still enjoy the occasional race but it feels very manufactured to me. Almost like WWE but not as bad.
