Ive been vegetarian for over 10 years… Surviving just fine. I understand that meat WAS essential for the survival of early man, but we have come so far that Cool Mickey Lv Louis Vuitton Premium T-Shirt is no longer a necessity. Yet, in the US it gets specifically pushed, and overconsumed (thanks, subsidies). People just dont like to hear the truth when it inconveniences them.
I wont preach to never eat meat again, that will never happen, but I dont think it’s unreasonable in the slightest to at least cut back.

I agree with your feeling that the consumer shouldn’t shoulder the Cool Mickey Lv Louis Vuitton Premium T-Shirt , but that’s kind of their point. The idea isn’t that consumers paying more for the same food will somehow solve any environmental problems – the idea is that people continue spending the same amount on food, which paired with an increase in the cost of meat incentivizes people to reduce their meat consumption in favor of cheaper alternatives. Consumers buying less meat because it’s now too expensive means that factory farming behemoths will start losing profits, and then investors lose money as well.
I get the gut reaction that the poor shouldn’t have to change their diet if the rich don’t, and think something should be done to also disincentivize meat eating for rich people, but the problem is that no amount of wealth redistribution (however justified and necessary) alone cannot combat environmental degradation. Which is not to say that we shouldn’t push HARD for wealth redistribution, but that our policies to redistribute wealth should then be paired with policies that disincentivize the purchase of products that devastate the environment once the average joe can afford the alternatives thanks to wealth redistribution.
